Hoje, em dia de Martin Luther King, esta passagem da Letter from a Birmingham Jail, onde ele advoga a estratégia da resistência não-violenta contra o racismo, fez-me lembrar esta onda de gente que acha que o assédio sexual é mau mas só quando envolve violação (e boa sorte em prová-la), que o #metoo está a ir longe demais, que se está a tornar numa caça-aos-bruxos, e que as mulheres deviam era fazer tudo certinho pelos trâmites legais que existem para não perturbar muito os homens no geral e não fazê-los ponderar comportamentos e temer consequências (bem se viu onde isso nos tem levado até aqui):

"... the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White City Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to 'order' than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says 'I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;' who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a 'more convenient season.' Shallow understanding from people of goodwill is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection."

Wholeness

'We’re kind of teaching our kids that happiness is the default position — it’s rubbish. Wholeness is what we ought to be striving for and part of that is sadness, disappointment, frustration, failure; all of those things which make us who we are. Happiness and victory and fulfilment are nice little things that also happen to us, but they don’t teach us much… I’d like just for a year to have a moratorium on the word “happiness” and to replace it with the word “wholeness.” Ask yourself, “is this contributing to my wholeness?” and if you’re having a bad day, it is.'

"O transporte de trabalhadores escravos de África, iniciado pelos Portugueses para o desenvolvimento do Brasil, não tardou a envolver as colónias espanholas, inglesas, francesas e holandesas da América. Esta deslocação forçada de um número de indivíduos estimado em doze milhões provocou uma quantidade enorme de mortes, durante a viagem e nos primeiros anos de cativeiro. A imposição do domínio português em portos cruciais (e no território circundante) de África e da Ásia causou a destruição de famílias, comunidades e grupos étnicos, bem como o desmembramento de sistemas culturais e políticos. Por estas razões, a publicação deste livro carece de toda e qualquer natureza comemorativa.
